Highway Angel Recognition is awarded through the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) every year for a driver’s “good deeds”, ranging from simple acts of kindness, such as fixing a flat tire, to heroic life-saving efforts, such as pulling someone from a burning vehicle. Nominations are accepted when anyone witnesses or experiences an exceptional act of kindness or courtesy by a truck driver.

As the program continues to focus on improving the public’s image of truck driving as a profession and providing a program that recognizes, companies have been using the program to increase morale and has become a large part of the recruitment and retention of their drivers.

Lindsay Lawler, who is known for her songs about trucking and a newly released song called “Highway Angel”, was inspired by the TCA’s Highway Angel program. Back in August, Lawler was made an honorary Highway Angel at the Great American Truck Show by TCA. The song is currently being promoted in the industry and to radio, and she will be appearing at TCA events such as the past uDrove Humanitarian Bowl, and feature the song, “Highway Angel”.  You can hear the full version on Lawler’s website, www.lindsaylawler.com .

Below are the Lyrics to the song “Highway Angel”

I remember that the road was wet, the bright lights from the cars ahead
I remember every word from the prayer I said
And I remember how time stood still
It seemed like forever until the world came crashing
Down, around me, and I closed my eyes
And I wondered if it was my time
Or was there a…

Highway Angel, a beautiful stranger
Who would be the light, on my darkest night
And save me from this hell
Highway Angel

I remember how you reached your hands through the broken glass
And how it all just seemed to go so fast
I never even got your name, but how could I forget the face
Of a hero sent my way by God’s amazing grace

Highway Angel, a beautiful stranger
Who would be the light, on my darkest night
And save me from this hell
Highway Angel

Road to road, coast to coast, giving back when they get the chance to
Saved my life passing through, I thank God I can say, thank you

Highway Angel, a beautiful stranger
Who would be the light, on my darkest night
And save me from this hell
Highway Angel

Hallelujah, Highway Angel
Hallelujah, Highway Angel
Hallelujah, Highway Angel
Hallelujah, Highway Angel
