FLEETS ARE TRYING TO ATTRACT WOMEN DRIVERS

Posted: March 15, 2016 in Kenworth

Women make up 57% of the work force but only 6% of truck drivers are women.  Trucking fleets are trying to increase that percentage.  In a field where men and women are paid the same and wages can run between $60,000 and $80,000, there appears to be a need to educate women about the truck driving job.  Many trucking companies will pay for driver training courses to get a new employee started.  Also, most companies will attempt to get women into a team driving situation for safety reasons.  Lots of women drivers enjoy having pets with them and most companies will allow that.  Trucking companies are making an effort to explain all job expectations, such as how much time the driver will be away from home, at interview time.
